Australian Geographic has featured The Third Man Factor in a piece titled, "An adventurer's guardian angel: the third man", written by Alasdair McGregor. The piece is summarized in its subtitle: "Pushed to the brink of exhaustion, lone adventurers are known to seek solace from a surprising source - themselves."

Why the Titanic has captivated people for a century
From Friday's Globe and Mail
Other maritime disasters claimed more victims with more mystery. But the unsinkable ship took hubris down with it
The sinking of RMS Titanic in 1912 pales alongside some other maritime disasters. The loss of the Dona Paz in the Philippines in 1987 killed more than twice as many people. The 1845 disappearance of the Erebus and Terror in the labyrinthine Arctic Archipelago is a far…

John Geiger has been announced as a speaker at the ground-breaking Sonic Acts conference, Feb. 23-26, in Amsterdam. This event is a global leader in bridging art, technology and science.
From the Sonic Acts website:
Time is a complex and ambiguous concept. Relativity theorists and quantum mechanics have tinkered with the seemingly unambiguous concept of time since the beginning of the previous century. Art, film and music make abstract notions of time tangible and comprehensible, and manipulate how we experience it. The ongoing development and implementation of technology constantly challenge, change and undermine our perception of time. Communication networks function at the…
A new paper in the scholarly journal HISTORIA argues the third man factor is behind the epiphanies of ancient Greece.
In a paper just published in the scholarly journal Historia, "Greek Epiphanies and the Sensed Presence", Gabriel Herman, Professor of Ancient History at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. and award-winning author of Morality and Behaviour in Democratic Athens: A Social History, argues the third man factor "offers an important clue for unravelling the mental processes that gave rise to the epiphanies in ancient Greek culture."
"Most scholars trained in the rigors of classical philology would…

Debating religion
Hitchens Vs. Blair: Be It Resolved Religion Is a Force for Good in the World
Anansi, 79 pages, $14.95
When former British PM Tony Blair, a convert to Roman Catholicism, and ailing atheist polemicist Christopher Hitchens squared off in Toronto last Nov. 26, it was the hottest ticket of the season; even scalpers were having a hard time. The fame and eloquence of the debaters was, of course, the real draw for this latest in the Munk Debates series.
This little book is a…
