Navy Man's Surprise
About 15 years ago I worked with an older chap who spent his earlier years in the Navy. He experienced an event which profoundly changed his life. I'm a bit fuzzy on precise details, but recall this:
His ship was docked in Hong Kong and him and some lads were in town drinking on their night off. They were sitting at the bar when he heard a voice in his head say very clearly and firmly "Get out." He was a bit shocked, wondering who spoke when it said again "GET OUT, NOW!" He felt a bit silly but was compelled to obey and went outside. Moments later the bar exploded. The man was stunned that he got saved from the blast and the clear warning he heard. He later became a follower of Jesus because of the impact of that experience.

In 1982, while living in Inverness, California, I had a similar experience. Heavy rainfall through the night had created conditions for landslides in the area I lived in. In the early morning, a debris flow rushed down our canyon with enough force to sweep our two cars off the driveway and smashed large bay trees, from a landslide further up the canyon, into our house. The house withstood the impact. We immediately started putting my wife's artwork up in the loft in order to avoid water damage if the water rose. As I was passing a painting up to her, she stopped, and said,"I just got a message that we should leave now!" I didn't argue the point. We couldn't leave through the only door because it had been blocked by the earlier debris flow. We had to go out a window and across a flooded area of rushing water to escape up the nearby hillside. Minutes later, hearing a roar as loud as thunder coming from the canyon, I looked out the window of our neighbor's house just in time to see a large section of an interior wall, with a painting still hanging on it rush before my view. The entire house was swept down the canyon. Its wreckage deposited in the marshes of Tomales Bay. My wife, her son, and I escaped without a scratch, with only the clothes on our back.
My first words to my wife after announcing that our home was gone were,"I don't know why this has happened, but I KNOW it is for our own good." Needless to say the following months were quite difficult, but in the long run, things DID work out for our good. After overcoming some rather large obstacles I was eventually able to rebuild a larger and better house than the one destroyed.

Hi. My Dad told me of a similar story to the Navy one, when he was in the Army. Every night he used to go to the bar with his army friends. Apparently, they all had their same seats that they would sit on at the bar. This one night, my Dad had a very clear message/thought/idea to go and write a letter to my Mum. He did that, leaving his seat. Not long after, one of their own army team who had 'gone crazy' came into the bar and fired a whole lot of bullets around the place. My Dad would have been killed if he stayed in the bar that night. We both study Christian Science which teaches that these thoughts are good thoughts from God, who is always loving and always caring for us.
Thanks for that Jodie [and John from 8 months ago]. Yes I agree that it is from God and it is amazing how He moves. I wonder if it's through his messengers [angels] we hear these words. I believe they sometimes speak, to give warnings for our protection. Imagine if these people had not listened!!
And sometimes we will hear it too, though it may not be about life and death moments.
